Symbolism of characters and events can be seen abundantly throughout the novel which enhance its beauty and style. Images like palm tree, henna plant under the palm tree, dogs, cats and pigeons refers not only to the behaviors of characters but also the whole Muslim society. the novel starts with the dawn time twilight that refers to rise of sun as well as the rise of the protagonist Mir Nihal's living standards. On the contrary, descriptions of twilight of evening time in the closing sentences portrays the overall downfall and destruction of not only the Family of Mir Nihal but also the Mughal Empire altogether.
